October 31, November 21, & December 19—Visiting Priest
Fr. Felix Petrovsky, a Capuchin Monk from the Solanus Casey Friary in Colorado Springs celebrated three Sunday Masses at our parish.
The Capuchin Franciscans of the St. Conrad Province in Mid-America are Catholic religious order of friars (brothers), both priests and lay, who take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience and strive to live according to the Rule of St. Francis and the sound traditions of the Capuchin Reform. As little brothers of St. Francis, the friars minister to people in all walks of life, but most especially to the poor.
The Capuchin Friars began as a reform of the Franciscan Observants in 1525. Friar Mathew de Bascio and several others, disillusioned with perceived relaxations of the Rule, desired to adhere to the strict, literal observance as lived by St. Francis and his earliest companions. In particular, they sought a more contemplative life coupled with rigorous austerity, strict poverty and a literal following of the Rule and Testament of Francis. Though originally persecuted for their split with the Observants, the Capuchins were immensely popular among the common people and were officially recognized as an independent Order on July 3, 1528.
